It’s official, Seattle workshops are open for registration! I’ll be flying back and bringing you 3 workshops in a row at different price points!

💌 Galentines Sip and Paint at @universalstandard in Belltown on Sunday, February 9 from 11 to 1. We’ll provide the mimosas and fun templates to decorate a wine glass that you can either gift for Valentine’s or keep. We have a bundled deal if you bring a friend!

Meet Sarah from Lark Lettering
Hi guys, Sarah here from Lark Lettering! You can call me Lark if you want, like @wallywzrd does. 😊
Here’s a few things you may not know about me.
1. I’m a desert dweller. 🏜 After living in Seattle for 7 years I moved to Albuquerque for school. It was a scary thing to make such a drastic change but I still have my house in Seattle so feel like I’m still rooted in the PNW. Don’t worry — I haven’t forgotten about you or our community we cultivated. PS: I’ll be back in Seattle soon — the newsletter announcement will go out today!
2. I’m an @airbnb SuperHost! Since I wasn’t occupying my adorable house, I listed it on Airbnb and it was a big hit!
3. I’m the oldest of 5 kids. My mom was an art teacher so our house became the place for the neighborhood to come and cultivate creativity. My parents were okay with us drawing on the walls so me and all my friends made ourselves right at home decorating the walls. My dad told me later it took 7 coats of paint to cover. 🙄
4. I’m obsessed with glasses frames. These ones I’m wearing are from @eyebuydirect since everyone asks. 🤓
Thanks for reading, if you feel so inclined you can share something about you in the comments!

Welcome, January 2020
January welcomes in a new month, a new year, and a new decade — no big deal. We’ve got this.
This was made on an iPad with the Apple Pencil in the Procreate app. I uploaded a photo from Unsplash, then lettered January overtop using the monoline brush.
Top 9 of 2019
So long, 2019! Here’s a breakdown of our top 9 photos of 2019 on Instagram.
- Edible Alphabet series: A is for asparagus
- Photo Overlay: Flamenco
- My Tactile Type project from LetterWest at Ade Hogue’s workshop
- Edible Alphabet series: B is for black beans
- Wedding Calligraphy Signs on plexiglass
- Photo Overlay: Bright idea
- Hi, I’m Sarah!
- Hello gorgeous client mural work
- Wish you were here — Ann Lettering’s mural in participation with We Are Love Letters that we got a sneak preview of during LetterWest!
It looks like projects with tactile type, larger scale lettering, and overlays that involved me were the most resonant last year! Happy 2020, everyone!
Merry Christmas!
Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
The lettering was done by hand, then scanned and uploaded into Photoshop and layered on top of a photo. The photo was shot by Brad Bowen with a Canon digital SLR, and the greenery was styled by Sarah Ward.
Tactile Lettering: L is for Lemons
L is for lemons. It’s been a minute since my last Edible Alphabet post, though this is one of my favorite ones to date! When I was at @adehogue‘s type class at @letter_west we listened to @beyonce‘s lemonade album exclusively so it only seems appropriate.
Happy December 2019
There’s a house in my neighborhood that has a candle in every window and every time I pass it, it’s so warm and welcoming that it makes me want to cry. At this, the darkest time of year, let’s be the light. Happy December, everyone.
This was made on an iPad with the Apple Pencil in the Procreate app. I uploaded a photo from Unsplash, then lettered December overtop using the monoline brush.
Small Business Saturday: Shop Small
It just feels right to shop small and support small businesses. With your shopping this weekend, I hope you allocate funds to shop small. The community will thank you for it.
This lettering was done by hand, then scanned and uploaded into Photoshop and layered on top of a blue background — you can see the texture in the text from the marker that was used.
What makes you come alive?
What makes you come alive? How can you rearrange your life to have more of that in it?
These are questions I’ve been asking myself this year. I discovered flamenco dancing when I was 18 and it had such an impact that I rearranged my life around it… and continue to! This fall I’ve had the unique opportunity of studying dance extensively in the high desert of New Mexico and it has filled my bucket to overflowing.
Excited to be back in Seattle this week for a private workshop!
A little throwback to some earlier art from 2017.
This lettering was done by hand with a 4 round brush and black watercolor ink, then scanned and uploaded into Photoshop and layered on top of a photo — you can see the texture in the text from the brush and watercolor ink.
