Hot tip: if you take a trip during the cold weather of winter, it makes spring come that much sooner! So glad spring has sprung.

Since studying with Gemma O’Brien at Letterwest last summer, I feel like my mind has been opened to different ways to letter and communicate visually through type. When I was working on my project in her class and hit a wall, she gave me some advise to add an in-line to add depth. So (confession time), even though I never wrapped that project, I integrated it here!
While I was in the south of Spain recently, I had the chance to attend a dance festival where I danced for 4 hours every day. Of course that wasn’t the plan — I had modestly signed up for 2 hours a day, but in Andalucia, flamenco studios are as common as yoga studios are here, so I couldn’t resist a few extra classes. As a result, I wore out the soles of my shoes and had to buy a replacement pair… or two.
How marvelous it is to live in your body instead of your head! We walked everywhere, took long lunches, ate more than one dinner a day, saw shows every night, and lived slow. Europeans do it right with their life balance.
Where are you traveling to this year?
Oh, hey! I’m Sarah and these are some of my favorite things.
Lauren Hom of @homsweethom issued her first #homwork weekly lettering challenge and I’ve been working on this all week. Funnily enough, I had literally been working on the EXACT SAME PROJECT since the last Meetup. What?! Should I add Mind Reader to this list?? 🔮 Great minds.
In other news, purple may be my favorite color.
Something about block lettering takes me back to being in the 8th grade all over again!
The 2 part Hand Lettering and Design starts this Tuesday and our 18% off ends at midnight tonight. If you already know enough alphabets to keep you going for a while, you can register for part 2 only next week.

Dress for Success is having their annual Designer Treasure sale this week! Recently I had a chance to volunteer for Dress for Success Seattle in preparation for their epic event and can personally attest that there are phenomenal finds to be found, you will not be disappointed!
In addition to taking home terrific one of a kind finds at the sale, you’ll also be supporting a terrific cause. Dress for Success is all about helping women get back on their feet and start from scratch again. Women who have fallen on hard times can go to Dress for Success and receive a consultation with a style professional and get a new outfit for a job interview. Sales are their primary source of revenue so when you shop the sale, you support women in need in the local community.
You can be first in line at the pre sale on Thursday, October 12 for $25, or go to the public sale with no entry fee on Friday. Get your tickets here. See you there!

Do you find your creativity thrives and work actually gets done when you have a deadline? Me, too. For the month of August, join us in a 30-day Lettering Challenge, Learn Your Letters, where we’ll letter our way through the lowercase alphabet and end the month with a few simple words. No formal experience is required.
This is a great opportunity to experiment with different ways to create different letterforms. Get inspired! Try new styles! See what sticks! Can’t wait to see what you cook up. May the lettering begin!
