We all know how it feels when our creativity feels like stagnant waters. On the heels of the luminous Letter West conference, my book club read a chapter from Women Who Run With The Wolves (favorite book, ever) about Nourishing the Creative Life. In it, CPE says this:
“Creativity is not a solitary movement. That is its power. Whatever is touched by it, whoever hears it, sees it, senses it, knows it, is fed. That is why beholding someone else’s creative word, image, idea, fills us up, inspires us to do our own creative work. A single creative act has the potential to feed a continent.”
We feasted on this creative energy at Letterwest and I came home full and happy with renewed energy for my craft, and beautiful bright ideas. Ideas can be tenuous as smoke but seem to take form when you can be courageous and take action. Thank you @letter_west, @beccaclason and every person I crossed paths with last week for being a catalyst for creativity.
I have a fun new tactile lettering series I’m working on that I’ll start to roll out this weekend!

Salt Lake City
It took a minute to recover after the Letter West after party and a bleary eyed 7am flight home Saturday, but I’m buzzing with new ideas (fitting — bees are an important symbol to Utah) and taking @erikmarinovich‘s advice to strike while the iron is hot. Cooking up some fun projects back in Seattle and can’t wait to share!
PS: watch the process unfold in my stories!
Letter West: Wish You Were Here
I’m a big believer that personal development and education can turn your world around. This is why I decided to go to @letter_west on a lark (I literally booked my tickets a week ago after @hgcalligraphy invited me — thanks @beccaclason for letting me in at the last minute! 🙏🥳).
At events like this the energy between the creatives is palpable, it’s the best catching up with old friends and making new ones, and you walk away infused with so many cool ideas to implement. To all my fun lettering peeps, wish you were here.
Don’t wait till you’re ready. Every single person has imposter syndrome, including the greats like @stefankunz and @mollyjacques.
It’s just money. And money is just energy that you can manifest.
Whatta mural, @annlettering! 😻❤🥳 If you are in SLC check out @weareloveletters, opening soon!
Letter West 2019 Ade Hogue Tactile Type Workshop
This week at @letter_west I took a tactile lettering workshop with @adehogue and I felt like a fish in water! For the last 5 years I’ve been an Editorial Stylist at a photo studio doing hands on styling, so this tactile process is right up my alley.
First I sketched out a concept, tested out the medium, then settled in on the windowsill in the sun and then got to work with my honey composition 🍯. A big thank you to Adé for sharing his expertise!
Letter West Conference, Day 1
I flew to Letter West this week on a lark, after receiving an invitation from my lovely friend Hillary. On the plane from Seattle, I worked on this composition in Procreate, and then changed the “letter” design the next morning.
Lit up after Day 1 of @letter_west and awesome classes with @stefankunz and @adehogue!
Come Home to Your Body
I’m feeling so called to make art that speaks to my soul on so many levels. As human beings as we traverse through life we accidentally chip away parts of our soul that get left behind. If you don’t feel all there or fully embodied, this is why. It’s time to call yourself home to your body. It’s safe here.
A big shout out to Jenny Wade of @havenyogaseattle for this resonant message.
Also, this was the product of one of our monthly meetups! Good things come when we letter together.
Future President Leather Jacket
Working on a fun custom project this week for a client, here’s one of our early sketches!
From Procreate sketch to real life, here’s a glimpse at the finished product! Since this is for a miniature human, the client asked us to simplify some of the details so that the focus could be on the type, keeping the peace sign, and adding the female symbol.
A darling little girl is going to wear this future president leather jacket around!
We love doing one-off projects like this, so if you have a vision you’d love help executing, drop us a line!
Letter Like a Girl
You throw like a girl. You run like a girl. Like it’s a bad thing? Letter like a girl. Unapologetically.
This was one of my first Procreate iPad lettering projects, really digging the chalk texture.
Let’s Letter Together – May Seattle Lettering Club
Born out of a hunger for community, connection, and creativity, I founded the Seattle Lettering Club.
Join us for our monthly gathering on Monday, May 20 at the Collective Seattle from 6 to 9 where we’ll make art and meet other makers.
Let’s hear it for the mothers
When they say it takes a village to raise a child, they’re not kidding. Over the years I’ve been mothered from a multitude of mothers, including the one who birthed me, and I’m grateful for each of these women for their role in my life. Here’s to you unforgettable women.
